The 69 Adventure
Chapter 14 – Easter Break
| With Jase in Florida, Kat & I started to tackle the body. Unfortunately, Sam got mad at me and tried to kick the car off the blocks. He succeeded is denting the rear passenger panel pretty severely. |

| We wanted to sand the car down to bare metal and prime it. Kat found a sufficient quantity of bondo where we hadn't expected it and dug that out, then straightened the front fender. With a coat of primer, it looked 100% better! There was hope for the rest of the car. |

I had been plagued by the migraines since September 2001. The doctors hadn't been able to find a cause or a cure. Some days I couldn't think straight and although I was on daily medication and painkillers, it wasn't doing the trick. April 2nd I had another appoint with the neurologist. I had given the last 'preventative' a fair try and it wasn't working.....not to mention it caused weight gain, which wasn't making me any happier. I had tried over a dozen different drugs but was willing to keep trying to find the one that would return me to a more normal lifestyle. The doctor put me on Topamax. This is the epileptic anti-seizure drug that was all over the news because they found it could prevent migraines. It seemed to work!
Kat spent quite a bit of time over here, working on this and that - the little things we needed done. Via ICQ we kept Jase apprised of our progress and teased him - things like threatening to put the drag radials on Julie's car or sending him pictures of Julie and I wearing the tires (no, I'm not including those pics). We had the tires mounted - I had finally decided on Pro-Star rims.

In the beginning of April,. Jase found 2 Lab pups. After waivering about wanting, needing, having a dog, and with some persuasion (not to mention cute pictures), I agreed to take the little black one....figuring Jase would have to find a home for it anyway and it wouldn't be any harder up here than in Florida. By the time Jase was ready to come back, I had already fallen in love with the little furball and had named him Icebox. Kat was now retrieving Jase, a Great Dane, and a little puppy (which he threatened to throw out the window if it yelped or cried). Kat took my wagon and arrived in Florida on the 13th. Jase showed him the sights and they left to come back on the 21st. When he got here, Icebox fit right in, even curling up in the race seats! |

Before Kat even left for Florida, I found a lump in the left breast. It was swelling at a phenomenal rate. The headaches were gone, but I was constantly tired, light-headed, having difficulty finding the right word, and now I was in pain again. I had visited the doctor and he put me on antibiotics and referred me to a specialist. In the meantime, I was getting cranky and frustrated. I had suggested to Jase that maybe we should put off working on the car for a few months, but didn't tell him about the latest health problem. I felt like I was trying to hang on long enough to finish the car and I wasn't going to make it. For the first time, I asked about when it might be done. I didn't feel I could be consumed by the project for the whole summer - I just didn't seem to have the strength...the will but not the strength.
