The 69 Adventure

Chapter 11 – The Fun Begins

Over the next few days, the house settled into "car-mode"  Jase examined the 69 from top to bottom; we ordered the crate engine and he ordered the cam and various assorted parts.  The usual plan was that I went to work during the day (except for the 2 days I work from home) and Jase would do whatever.  I'd get home from work, shower and we'd have dinner - then work on something for the car.  Once the needed parts started to arrive, we'd work on assembling the engine and do a late dinner.

But before that point, it was mostly planning and anticipation.  We spent some relaxation time with the NE Crew.  Within a week after Jase got here, we headed over to Ollie's for roast beef sandwiches and to look over PK's project (scope out the competition)!

The night after Ollie's, we made another trek west - the shortblock had arrived at the freight terminal!  I'd never been to a freight terminal - this was one of many firsts - too many to count!  The engine was crated and wrapped.  We loaded it into the back of Jase's truck.  I was like a kid with a new toy at Christmas.

Once the engine was home, it was unpacked and put on 69Mustanf's engine stand (thank you, Nate!).
Then I just had to take pictures of it - from every angle!
And I needed an explanation of whatever hole was for, where it went, and how it worked.  Jase spent alot of time teaching and describing, but I wanted to understand what was going to go on inside the engine.
In less than another week, the cam and lifters arrived. Jase explained what each of the numbers on the cam meant, how he decided on them (sorta), and how it all worked together.

He had removed the old engine from the 69 too.

The weather held out and by the end of January, the front and rear were off the car and it was resting on 4x4's and cinder blocks.

We were making progress; my living room was filling with cartons of car parts, and I was learning more than I would remember.   The garage needed to have wiring added so Jase could use his welder, and when we went out to dinner for cousin's birthday, we found one of her friends was an electrician, willing to do the work.  We still hadn't found an oven for the powdercoating though.
